Marissa Michel is a second generation American of Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage. She served as the 2020 Prince George’s County Youth Poet Laureate. She was also named as the 2022 runner-up for Youth Poet Laureate of the U.S. South. Marissa is an avid poet, digital artist, and musician. In 2020 she received multiple national gold medals for poetry in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards, as well as an American Voice nomination. In 2022 she recieved a second American Voice Nomination in the Scholastic competition. She was the recipient of the 2020 Diaz-Mattison Poetry Prize.
Marissa is currently a sophomore at Emerson College, studying Media Arts Production with a specialization in Filmmaking.
